Obituary for Emma Jean Pethtel
Emma Jean Pethtel, 96, of Keyser, WV and formerly Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the Keyser Healthcare Center. She was born in Clarksburg on August 7, 1927, a daughter of the late Exel Grant and Goldie Faye (Harper) Skidmore.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Edward Pethtel; her twin sister Betty June Collins; and two grandchildren, David Neal Pethtel and Melissa Dawn Pethtel.
Emma Jean is survived by two sons: James David Pethtel of Springfield, WV, and Jeffery Neal Pethtel (Bobbi) of Bridgeport; sister Deloris Oldaker of Stonewood; three grandchildren: Stephanie Michelle Pethtel of NC, Stacy Marie Pethtel of WV, and Corrections Officer James David Pethtel II of Ft. Levenworth, KS; two great-grandchildren: Isiah and Elijah; and numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew Rick Pethtel of Medina, OH.
Emma was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Church, loved going to church and talking about her religion. She was a hard worker, taking care of her home and family and after her husband’s passing she worked for Hill’s Department Store. She enjoyed doing crafts and cooking.
