Obituary for Ellen L. Himes

Ellen Lucille Himes, 90, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. She was born on June 26, 1926 in Lumberport, a daughter of the late Lyda and Vonda (McCarty) Martin.

Ms. Himes is survived by two daughters: Dianne Himes, and Beth Richards both of Clarksburg; three granddaughters: Amber, Aimee, and Chelsea; and two nieces: Janet Godfrey, and Debra Martin.

In addition to her parents Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Rayburn D. Himes on October 29, 1987, and one brother, Charles R. Martin.

After graduation Ellen attended the Salem College. She was a member of Broad Oaks United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir until age 85. Ellen loved reading, especially spiritual readings, and also enjoyed watching her favorite game shows, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and keeping up with local and world news. She was a very special lady who always put the needs of others before her own, even in her last few years in nursing care she would always worry about those who were there to assist her.

Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 3 until 7pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the funeral home at 11am with Rev. Bonnie Starkey presiding. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
