Oliva Prieto Maditz Matheny, 92, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 14, 1924 in Anmoore, a daughter of the late Jose and Ceferina (Suarez) Prieto both of Cancienne, Spain.
Oliva is survived by one daughter, Ceferina Haught and husband Tim; three grandchildren: Gary Haught and wife Jennifer of Roanoke, VA; Susan Wood and husband Greg of Bridgeport; and Amy Sweeney and husband Patrick of Bridgeport; six great-grandchildren: Anna Haught, Jack, Jenna, and Jacie Wood and Olivia and Ava Sweeney; a brother-in-law, James Steffich of Clarksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Oliva was preceded in death by her first husband, William Maditz and her second husband, James Matheny. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having also been preceded in death by seven siblings: Joseph, Mino, and Manuel Prieto, Mary Cox, Vera Long, Delores Skinner, and Thelma Steffich.
Oliva worked at Eagle Convex Glass for 40 years as a glass polisher and department supervisor. She enjoyed being with her family whether it was taking trips with her daughter or staying at home with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Oliva was proud of her ability to live alone and care for herself at the age of 92.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 4 until 8pm. Catholic Funeral Rites will be celebrated on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the funeral home at 10am with Father D. Kent Durig presiding and Dr. Michael Hopkins assisting.
