Hazel Marie Markley, 95, formerly of Mt. Clare, WV, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 in Kent, OH. She was born in Braxton County on September 21, 1921, a daughter of the late Harvey and Bessie King Henderson. Mrs. Markley was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert J. Markley Sr. on February 8, 2001.
Mrs. Markley is survived by two sons: Robert Joseph Markley Jr. and wife Joyce of Lost Creek, WV, and Frank Lee Markley and wife Judith of Ravenna, OH; one sister Dorothy Elkins and husband Allen of Woodbridge, VA; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by one daughter, Madelyn Sue Pratt; four siblings: Zora Buckhannon, James Henderson, Juanita Stull, and Geneva Henderson; and one son-in-law, James Pratt.
Hazel was a homemaker and very proud to be part of the Mt. Clare community. Her favorite past times were canning vegetables and making quilts. Hazel also liked to sing, family gatherings, and vacationing to visit with family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her family.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home 329 E. Main Street Clarksburg, WV, on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 4 until 8pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the funeral home at 11am with Rev. Brian Plum presiding. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
